lyrics

The pale light of dawn,
St Symeon’s harbour walls.
Assembled for the call,
to Jerusalem’s sacred throne.

A knight kneels to greet,
the ground beneath his feet.
The sight of blood and sand,
trickles through the gauntlet hand.

A knight kneels to greet,
the ground beneath his feet.
The sight of blood and sand,
trickles through the gauntlet hand.

Hailed from a different world,
and the cloisters of the mind.
And within that different world,
where utopian visions hide.

A songbird sings in the morning light.
Glimpses of heaven, shine in shimmering white.

Poor knights of the temple called,
to defend the pilgrim’s road.
Withhold from the sword,
no condemnations drawn.

A knight prepares to retreat,
from the land beneath his feet.
While the sight of blood and sand,
trickles through his gauntlet hand.

Torn from the sword of God.
the promised land denied,
The faithful hear a call,
to a new welcome fire

The knights of Malta comfort,
those fallen in the night,
Beyond hardships road toward,
a city of light.

Wall of faith hardened, in ancient scrolls.
A distant army’s reflection, miraged in the sun.
Dark clouds gather, across the land.
Prayers fallen now, in the valley of blood and sand.
